11 weeks

Well, we're 11 weeks in and doing great! Summer is feeling good, but did have her first real bout with morning sickness on friday. I went to work friday morning bragging to co-workers that I was going to be eating homemade chicken parmesan for dinner that night. However, Summer was craving Burger King and didn't feel like cooking, so I picked up a couple of Whoppers with cheese, instead. Our next trip to the doctor is scheduled for February 7th, where we'll do most of the administrative, insurance and medical history stuff, but no sonogram. We won't have another picture of the baby until we go in to find out the sex, which is in about 7 more weeks (I think!!).

This email is intended for all of those (yes all the way back to the C&L days) that have either continued to hassle me about my age or were an innocent bystander to watch me be continuously challenged as to my age over my 18 years with the firm. I know that Tarwater, Turner and Alford have waited very patiently for this year to come, yes I turn 50 in March and am very proud of it!!! But just so you feel really satisfied I will add to your entertainment in that I have recently found out I will become a grandmother this year as well!!! Of this I am very excited and cannot imagine what type of prank or mean trick you 3 could pull related to these events, but I decided I wanted to share this with you myself and not wait for you to find out from someone else!!! Because we haven't made much mention of the boys in all of this, and because they're so darn cute, I thought I'd do a post about them. This is Chunk offering up his kong for our new family member.

The Aggies don't kick-off the football season until September 3rd, so that should cause everyone to breath a big sigh of relief. However, in an interesting twist of fate, the Rangers are playing AT the Minnesota Twins on August 19th, our estimated due date (for those who aren't aware, Summer was born in Duluth, Minnesota).

Needless to say, I'll be expecting score updates from one of the guys (I'm looking RIGHT AT YOU, BK).

Work emails

Summer has just announced that she is at 9 1/2 weeks & going strong!

Michelle is my boss by the way, who doesn't have kids and probably won't. Hopefully she'll be ready for my departure mid-August! It's good to have a network of ladies here who are so helpful. They've already been inundating me with tons of tips and ideas. As they say, "it takes a village," and it seems like our village is pretty big, for which we are extremely thankful!

Work Announcement

Well, I told my boss last night and then told the rest of my group today. I had told 2 girls in my group already, Donna and Suzanne, and they were both pressuring me to tell everyone so they could talk about it openly. It was a lot of fun, although all the attention is a bit much. It's funny though, everyone asks the same question, which I think I've asked every pregnant person I've known too. "Do you know what it is yet?" Pretty sure it's a baby, but that's just a guess. ;-) Now that I'm actually in the situation and know how this works, it just seems funny to me because it's so early. I wish we knew what it was, but alas we've got to wait 10 more weeks! I've heard from some people that we should wait and have it be a surprise, but the fact is it's going to be a surprise whether we find out at 20 weeks or when the little guy/gal comes out! I think we'd rather be prepared. What's everyone else's vote?

I just heard! How exciting! Please feel free to ask any questions that you got... I have went thru it all... 14 days in the hospital! I can share all my experiences... please it will not bother me... just ask away! I never got the morning sickness thing though.. I can't help with that.... but all the other pains- I got them! We go to doctor Jan 19 to see how far along we are... The only thing I feel for me and Summer is the HEAT that we have to endure when we are HUGE! Scott- this means any food that Summer wants YOU go GET IT even it its 2am in the morning, all the feet and back massages she wants... Don't try to start any fights YOU WILL LOSE! Summer is never wrong..... Ask Jason all the crazy things I used to do.... I didnt mean any of it... it was just my emotions! Summer- this means you get to boss ppl around to get you stuff, enjoy it! Let ppl do stuff for you... You dont need to do anything but feed that baby inside you.... The worst thing that I can remember right now to share with you is the late night leg cramps, late night immediate need to pee... OOWWW I hated those leg cramps! close to the end- my feet would hurt so much!!!! I lost like 15 lbs of water weight on my first night stay at the hospital cuz they made me stay in bed all day!!!! Talk to you this weekend... Lili

I think you have underestimated our sneakiness...

It's been fun telling everyone the news, but one thing keeps coming across loud and clear - we pulled a fast one on everyone! The overwhelming response has been one of shock, as evidenced by the comments I've gotten. Sapna said "Wow, well I really didn't think you guys would be first!" and when Brooke told her family she made them guess who was expecting. Not only did our names not come up at all, Ginger (a single friend who doesn't have a boyfriend at the moment) was guessed. And Nicole even said "I didn't think you wanted kids." I guess I'm just a pretty private person when it comes to this kind of stuff. But with this blog I guess that won't really be an option! Now that we've told everyone, it definitely is starting to feel more real. We're looking forward to sharing the next 7.5 months with everyone!

Spreading the Word

As you can probably tell by the increase in comments, we did indeed tell a few of our close friends this weekend of the happy news. We also turned the grandma-to-be's loose, so I'm sure the phone lines coming out of Spring and North Dallas were on fire most of the day today. I will have to credit Big Jason with the words of advice that made me feel more comfortable in spreading the news and not worrying. As Jason so perfectly put it, "Dude, you only get to do this a handful of times in your life, if you're lucky. Why not spend all of your time focusing on the positive and enjoying the experience?" That's the single best piece of advice I've got from Jason in our 13 years of friendship. I appreciate it, bud.

We've spent most of the day today on the phone, trying to make sure you guys were able to hear it from us first. I still haven't reached Koenig in the land of the sand, so no one say anything to him yet. Just another testament to his no gamedness (kidding, James...you know you're my boy). One last note on the sonogram pics...Summer scanned them in, but they are in .pdf files. Unfortunately, the blog will only let you post picture (JPG, GIF, etc) files, so that's why they're not up yet. We'll work out the kinks and get them up as soon as possible.

Anyway, we appreciate all of your prayers and support thus far and ask that you continue to think of us in this regard.

Heart Beat

Well, today we were able to see a tiny little heart beating away like crazy. What's amazing is how fast it's grown in 4 weeks. I'm going to take the sonogram pics to mom and dad's to scan in and post on the blog this weekend. The first sonogram only showed the yolk sack and you couldn't really see the baby. In this latest one, the baby is 10-15 times the size of the yolk sack.....it's crazy!! This sonogram definitely made it feel that much more real that we're having a baby. The doctor said that everything looks perfect with the baby and Summer is doing great, as well. Summer couldn't stop crying tears of joy and I was getting misty-eyed myself (it was definitely getting dusty in the room, as Jim Pike would say).

As you might have figured out by reading some of the other comments, I called Jason on the way back to work and told him the news. He was shocked, to say the least. It looks like Lili and Summer are pretty close in terms of due dates. We are also both initially planning on using the same hospital (Medical City). Summer and I will finalize alot of the hospital, insurance, etc stuff on our next visit February 7th. In the meantime, her orders are to continue her usual exercise regime and to eat up!!!

We love all of you and ask for your continued prayers for a healthy baby and mom (and I guess dad, too!).

Pregnancy Rules

So, after 28 years of having "CLOSE THE TOILET SEAT!" beaten into my skull, my wife has turned the tables in a matter of weeks. Now, I have been instructed to leave the toilet seat OPEN at all times. It appears that a closed seat is an inconvenience to her in light of the increased late-night potty breaks. While on the surface, it would appear to the guys that this would be the answer to our prayers. However, I am here to say that muscle memory is a significany road-block in adhering to this request. As such, this becomes just another annoyance to my sweet wife.

The best part is that I KNOW that I will be asked to revert back to closing said toilet seat, once the baby is here. I'm calling it now. At some point after the baby is born, she's going to find me in the fetal position in the bathroom, lying in a puddle of my own urine. The cause....total indecision lock-down as to whether or not the seat should be up or down upon completion. I think I might just start going out back, like Chunky and Bud.

God only knows what other new "rules" are heading my way.
