Grammar - 2yo style

We watched the beginning of Hercules yesterday.  I say beginning b/c as usual it was "too scary" for us to watch.  Kaitlin is VERY sensitive to scary/sad things and so we are very limited in our viewing choices.  As a matter of fact, I don't think there is a single Disney movie we are allowed to watch.  When we watch TV it's pretty much limited to PBS shows over here since they are fairly innocuous.  But I digress.  Our conversation this morning:

Claire: "I want to watch my-cules"
Me: "Hercules?"
Claire:  "No, MY-cules, not HER-cules" (pointing angrily towards Kaitlin, she wasn't onboard with the choice yesterday)

I laughed pretty hard about that one.

Makes me laugh...

I have had this photo flagged in iPhoto since I found it b/c it makes me laugh so hard.  I was going to post it in hopes that I would be able to unflag it, but I still don't think I will.  I want to be able to pull it up whenever I'm having a bad day.

Drive Time

The girls love to play in the car, and love to play the driving games at the mall or wherever they have the cars with the screens that simulate real driving.  It should have come to no surprise to me then when Kaitlin says the other day, in the most serious of tones.  "Mommy.  I have been practicing driving on the games and watching you drive for a long time now, when are you EVER going to let me drive?!"  Haha, such a little toot.  I told her it's not my decision, the law says she has to be 16 so we've got about 11 more years yet.  Since then she's been focused on how close she is to 16, constantly asking and telling me "When I'm 12, I'll be close to 16, but not as close as when I'm 13, 14 or 15."  Or some variation on that.  I'm sure it will feel like a blink of an eye before that's actually here!

Bryn's Birth Story

General disclaimer, this is for posterity, not necessarily good reading.

Thursday, January 5 - started cramping and general pre-labor in the evening, but didn't think much of it bc no contractions.  Watched a stressful episode of Grey's Anatomy and got off the couch at 10pm and immediately started having very strong, very rapid contractions.  Told Scott to tell his parents to be on the ready to come stay with the girls.  5 min later told him to tell them to come on, I was getting in the shower b/c contractions were coming fast and hard.  Mind you I had just talked to my mom that day who was telling me that I should be extra cautious b/c Claire came so fast, and not to wait around like I did with her, otherwise Bryn might be born on the side of the road!  And my OB had told me something similar at the last few appointments, that 3rd children generally come very quickly so don't mess around.  So all this is adding up to a very quick labor in my mind.  Took about a 30 min shower with contractions very close together the whole time, but the second I stepped out of the shower they stopped.  Scott's parents were already en route, so we decided to head up to the hospital anyway since I was a day overdue and all the talk referred to above.

11:15pm - get to the hospital where they hooked me up to the monitors, showing baby looking fine and contractions coming, but very sporadic and no pattern.  Start process of walking for 30 min, being hooked up for 30 min.  Lots and lots of walking!

Friday, January 6, 2:30am - they decide to admit us since my dr is on call that night and he was on his way up to deliver another baby.  If things didn't start progressing, he would come break my water.  Rest a bit in bed with contractions coming hard for a while, then stopping completely.  Several rounds of that.

4:30am - Dr. New comes in to break my water.  Said that should get contractions going.  Lies, all of them!  :-)   Still getting up and walking a bit, but still no pattern to contractions.

8:30am - Start me on pitocin, makes contractions stronger but still no pattern.  Walk a bit around the room to try and help things along, but difficult since have to be on monitors the whole time now that on piton.

11:30am - Starting to get pretty uncomfortable, told them I want the epidural since this was taking so long.

12:30pm - Measured me and I am an 8.  That was one thing different about this hospital compared to the other 2 (or maybe just dr determined), but they only measured me like a total of 4 times.  With K and C I felt like they were measuring every hour.  Epidural guy gets there finally, best one of the 3 I had.  He was an Aggie and did a great job, especially with me being so squeamish.  I remember with Kaitlin I felt so sick and shaky and numb and I hated that feeling, and this one I could still feel pressure, just not the intense pain.

1:20pm - Started to push.  Scott was a great coach and Dr. New was awesome.

1:44pm - Bryn Noelle is here!  I can still see Dr. New's face when he held her up and goes "Whoa, this is a BIG baby!  She may be 10lbs!" and I said "No way, certainly not!"  They handed her to me and I got to hold her and nurse her and just lay with her for a long time while they did their business, that was so nice to not have her rushed away from me.  They even gave her her eye treatment and that first shot they give her while I was holding her, I don't think they took her away for a good hour, or hour and a half.  When they did, they weighed her and sure enough she was 9lbs 15oz!  Only 20.5in though.  Crazy!

I felt pretty good afterwards, not as good as I did with Claire since her labor was significantly shorter, but definitely better than I did after Kaitlin.  I still can't believe it took so long, but I guess she was a bit large so she had to make her way down.  I am convinced she wanted to wait and be exactly 10lbs so she was taking her time trying to gain that last ounce.  :-)  I was STARVING since I hadn't eaten since dinner the night before, so Stan and Brandon were sweethearts and went and got me french toast sticks and a sausage croissant sandwich from Sonic - one of the top 5 meals of my life right there.  ;-)  That afternoon we had many visitors, Stan, Cindi, Mom & Dad, Brandon and of course the girls.  They were so sweet and so excited, both climbed up in bed with me and looked and looked at Bryn.  Claire only wanted to hold her for about 2 seconds before saying "Ok, you take her" and was more interested in playing with the buttons on the bed.  You could not wipe the smile off Kaitlin's face, she was so excited.  They both got to witness Bryn's first bath, which they do in the room at that hospital, which is so nice.  I never got to see that part before b/c it was done in the nursery at Medical City, so that was fun.  Bryn was not a huge fan, and Kaitlin kept covering her ears when Bryn would cry.  When it was time to go, both of them were crying and Claire's face pretty much fell off.  She was SO sad that I was not going with them.  Broke my heart.

Bryn was a good eater from the start, and we had a nice stay in the hospital.  Scott stayed with us Friday night but decided to go stay with the girls Saturday night since Claire was having kind of a tough time.  Amanda, John & Jack and the Browns came to visit on Saturday, along with the girls who brought presents this time for Bryn.  Bryn and I came home on Sunday, January 8, it was so nice to be home with my whole family!  We had cake and balloons waiting on us, along with some excited little girls!

About her name - we had about 4 names on the list that we kept switching between, but kept coming back to Bryn as the favorite.  I had to sell Scott on Noelle.  I originally picked that as her middle name since she was due to be born during the 12 days of Christmas.  Scott didn't know that the 12 days start on Christmas and end with the Feast of Epiphany on January 6, so he thought it was weird to name her Noelle if she was born after December 25.  However, I sent him some background and he was ok with it as long as she came by January 6, and she just squeaked in there!  I think it's neat that she was born on the last day of Christmas, also known as 3 Kings Day (http://three-kings-day.123holiday.net/).

Christmas 2011

My Type A personality is not letting me post things out of order, so I've been trying to bang through these last few posts so I can get caught up, but Bryn is not cooperating at night when I would like to work on them and instead demands to be held during primetime hours.  Ah well, such is life.  Here is Christmas 2011 in pictures.

Christmas at Nannie's - always chaos!

Looking at these pics I can't get over how big my belly was - now we know why!
