9 month stats

We had what C refers to as her "sword fight" aka 9mo appt today. Poor bear got 3 shots, a toe prick for what seemed like FOREVER and an oral vaccine. I kept K occupied with stickers during the toe prick, but once those needles came out, her eyes were GLUED to them and C's legs. I even told her "Why don't you go pick out the final sticker" and she goes "No, I have to watch Claire." Obviously doesn't get this from me, as I was about to faint at the thought.

OCD much?

Last night as I was tucking her in for bed, K started telling me "Oh no, we have to fix the brown chair. The brown chair with the black wheels, we have to fix it." I unsuccessfully tried to convince her that whatever she was talking about could wait until morning (b/c I really had NO idea what she was talking about), but she could not be swayed. She walked out of her room and headed outside to the chaise lounge that we had moved several hours earlier when we were watering plants. She couldn't go to bed without putting it back. I hadn't even given it another thought. So either I'm a sucker for bedtime-delaying tactics or she's a little on the OCD side. Or maybe a bit of both.

Happy Birthday Claire!

Officially 9 months today! I feel like she's not really my baby anymore, she's now moving into that almost toddler phase. :-( In honor of her special day, here is a pic:

Poor second kid, never gets a pic by herself. As KC always says, at least there ARE pics of her, the 3rd kid won't have any! And here's an embarrassing video for all to see. For a kid who doesn't like food, she sure makes a lot of noise while eating! Reminds me of one Amanda Bonds, reasons for which will remain untold on this blog.

P.S. I can't figure out how to edit these videos on the computer. I would've liked to clip all the noisy pieces together so it's not a 2 min clip, but can't quite figure all that out yet. Someday.

Daddy Daughter Camping Trip

Scott took Kaitlin to Mineral Wells this weekend for an overnight camping trip. They had a great time and Claire and I got lots of calls over the weekend telling us what fun they were having. She got her very own Princess fishing pole, had her first taste of S'mores and first sleepover in a tent. All in all it was a great weekend! Here are some pics.

Excited with her bucket to collect things

First roasting of marshmallow. She looks a bit apprehensive. And she looks like she's already been into the chocolate.

Perfection!

Silly girl in the tent. Apparently bedtime was a 2 hour ordeal after previously shown s'mores.

Daddy daughter pic!

Sweet girl with her baby, still not sleeping...

Next morning, ready with her fishing pole!

Checking it out on the dock.

The three amigas

Nature girl

Beautiful ending to a beautiful weekend!

Another hit list

I wish I could keep a list with me all the time to write down the funny things K says. Here are a few that have come up in the past few days:

Yesterday the ice cream man drove by going about 90. I don't know why I decided to try and catch him, I could tell he was going fast from inside the house just by how quickly the music was coming towards us. But I wrangled K and we ran outside as he was screeching to a stop at the stop sign at the end of the street (why he kept his music on if he has no intention of stopping, I do not know). This of course led to hysterics and crying. When she finally calmed down she told me, "It's ok, we'll catch him next time and I will wave to him and he will wave back." Cute thing has no idea what the ice cream man produces, she was just sad she didn't get to wave! I'm tempted to keep it a secret a little longer, since I know he'll be around a lot this summer and Momma doesn't need any more ice cream that what is in her freezer!

Last night we went out for our anniversary and I took a tumble at the end of the evening and twisted my ankle pretty badly. I've been sitting with it elevated and icing it all morning, and she keeps asking me "Mommy, did Daddy trip you on your date?"

She told Nannie and Pawpaw last night while they were putting her to bed "Now, you can't leave tonight while I'm asleep, you have to wait until the morning so I can wave to you." She's all about the wave these days!

The kid eats zero veggies. Literally, not one that she knows about. I sneak butternut squash into everything I can, but if she can see it, she's not eating it. About 5 months ago (maybe even longer, this girl has a memory) I made her some chicken nuggets here at home and snuck in a few broccoli-cheese nuggets in hopes that she would eat them and not even notice. Well, she of course did and to this day, every time I ask her if she wants chicken nuggets she says "No Mommy, you turned them green." I've tried to convince her they were just a different product, but she's not buying it and will not touch nuggets I make at home. Bummer.

I know there are more things, but like I said, I need to keep a list with me to help me remember.

Sensitive Girl

Another note about Claire - she is VERY sensitive. She's been biting my shoulder, and I know it's because she's teething but I'm trying not to let her get into a bad habit, so I tell her "No Claire, don't bite Mommy," in somewhat of a stern voice. I mean I'm not yelling or anything, but I look at her and I have my serious face on, and every time it happens, she crinkles up her face and starts crying like I just slapped her or something. And tonight she kept grabbing some things that Scott was trying to work on and he goes "Claire!," in just a surprised type voice and she started bawling. D-R-A-M-A.

Claire's expanding palate

Our precious baby who finds applesauce sour and scrunch-face-worthy (see here) has a huge affection for pickles of all things! We gave her one this weekend and she ate some of it with no hesitation, no face making, nothing. Then today I took the girls to Firehouse Subs and K ate an ENTIRE meatball sub while C munched on a pickle and loved it. These crazy kids. We've tried a couple other things with mixed results - avocado (hated), spaghetti sauce with meat (loved but caused some hecka reflux), taco meat (loved), cheese (loved).

In other news, I finally cut the rat tail off of CB today. It was time, it was just too scraggly. I've saved it in a baggie for her baby book (which has not been touched for about 5 months).

And finally, for those who want to see all the pics from our latest shoot, here's the slideshow Jonnye put together. Nice to have sound but not necessary.

It has begun

The "Why" era has begun in our house. I've heard tales of this from friends and it's only been about 4 days and I've already pulled out the "Because Mommy said so." Pretty much every single thing I say is met with "Why Mommy?" or "But why?" She's even got the big puppy dog eye thing going with it. Fun times.
