A tale of two cities.

After profusely refusing to eat peas just a few weeks ago, Kaitlin threw a mama-bear of a curve ball today. For those that don't know, Summer makes baby food using the Magic Bullet she got from Barbara for Christmas. Every couple of weeks we try and mix in a new vegetable into Kaitlin's diet. So far, we're up to carrots, peas, sweet potatoes and bananas. When we first gave Kaitlin peas, it was pretty much a disaster. All she would do is slowly stick her tongue out with her lips pressed together and squeeze out the remnants of peas and make a horrible face. To be honest, she pretty much does the same thing today if we try and give her peas without mixing them in oatmeal.

Today, we introduced green beans into the mix, expecting a result similar to the peas. Much to our surprise, Kaitlin LOVED the green beans. After the first bite, she performed a perfect imitation of her Aunt Amanda at Sonic eating a Frito-pie. (My sister was/is a huge fan of the Sonic Frito-pie. I have many memories of pulling through Sonic with my mom, passing the Frito-pie to my sister in the back seat, hearing a huge "woosh" sound followed up by a ridiculously loud "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" noise by my sister after each bite.) Kaitlin kept leaning towards me wide-eyed and opening her mouth. When that didn't get the green beans in fast enough, she started sticking her tongue out and fanning it open real wide (kind of like a peacock's tail), just to make sure I got the point.

To say the green beans were a hit would be the understatement of the year. We'll just file this away as incident #1097 of Kaitlin pulling the rug out from under us, just about the time we think we've got things figure out.
